Resident Ponies

These are the ponies that are currently residing at Munchkins and, for various reasons, cannot be rehomed. They will live out their days here and are available to sponsor.

Born in 2016

Arthur

Arthur was abandoned in a field of cows, he was quite unwell when he came to Munchkins but is now a happy and healthy pony. He is spending the rest of his life at Munchkins due to his lovely temperament and will be used as a petting pony.

Health problems: He has had surgery on a hernia.

Why Arthur can't be rehomed: He is being retained as a therapy/petting pony.

Born 11 July 2011

Bam Bam

Bam Bam was abandoned in the back of a pub garden, he is such a sweet little pony with a lovely little character. He is best friends with Lady who he follows everywhere.

Health problems: He has a deformed hip, has had colic and had a severe virus in 2022. He struggles to maintain condition and needs expert care.

Why Bam Bam can't be rehomed: He has ongoing health problems and is bonded with Lady.

Born in 2021

Bear

Bear was very young at only five months old when he arrived at Munchkins late in 2021. He was feral and petrified and we believe he had never seen a human before so it was all very traumatic for him. He settled quicky and now has a good group of friends in Ozzy, Twinkle and Reggie. He is still very nervous and has a few select handlers who work with him, he has however made huge improvements and the munchkins volunteers know to how to behave when around him.

Health problems: He is unhandleable.
Why Bear can't be rehomed: Bear was taken away from his mum at a very young age and is terrified of people. He is gradually beginning to trust others.

Born in 1997

Bert

Bert also known as Bertie and Bertilicious  is a real character and very loved  by all at Munchkins. He is very loving and always greets you with a little winnie. He came to Munchkins in November 2022 with his three friends as his elderly owner could no longer look after him. He was very thin on arrival and needed a lot of care and attention. He has a very special bond with Poppet and they are now a loving married couple. He has terrible teeth so struggles to put on weight so has regular mash meals throughout the day. He needs special care so will remain at Munchkins.

 

Health problems: Bert had a serious virus and nearly died. 

Why Bert can't be rehomed: Bert is an elderly pony who has had a few episodes of colic and choke. He can only manage soft feeds and can only eat short grass of a certain length. Bert is pair bonded with Poppet.

Black Jack

Black Jack came to us via the World Horse Welfare with his companion Winnie the Pooh when his owner died at the age of 97. Black Jack has a history of laminitis and has recently been diagnosed with Cushing’s which he takes medication for. He has a very special bond with Winnie the Pooh but has made friends with the rest of the heard. He is a lovely gentle little pony who is very friendly once he’s got to know you.

Born in 1999

Blossom

Blossom was in a terrible condition when she arrived at Munchkins with her daughter Sweet Pea. She was terribly nervous on arrival at Munchkins but is slowly gaining trust and confidence, she has developed a lovely friendship with Christie. Christie and Blossom look very similar and it’s hard to tell them apart. Blossom has a home for life at Munchkins.

Health problems: Blossom was starved so is always hungry. She also had a traumatic background.

Why Blossom can't be rehomed: When Blossom arrived, she was un-handleable and emaciated. She is now settled with her friend Christie and it would be too traumatic to move her.

Born in 2010

Bonnie

Bonnie is a Miniature Shetland pony with dwarfism, she has very twisted back legs and a very long body. She arrived at Munchkins in 2020 and is a lovely little pony with a sweet nature. She has settled in well and has a lovely group of ponies who she has bonded with. She is very sweet to Luna our blind pony, they are always close by to one another. She has a home for life at Munchkins.

Born in 1992

Christie

Christie arrived in December 2021 and was rescued from terrible circumstances. She has very poor teeth and has needed extensive dental work which is on-going and has arthritis. She is very nervous but a very sweet natured and lovely pony. Her best friend is Blossom who looks nearly identical to her so it keeps our volunteers on their toes working out who is who. She will spend the rest of her days at Munchkins.

Health problems: She had awful teeth which needed major work. She also has advanced arthritis.
Why Christie can't be rehomed: She is extremely bonded with Blossom and will remain at Munchkins.

Cracker was abandoned.

Born in 2005

Crumble

Crumble came to us when his owner was too ill to look after him. He is a kind, loving and gentle pony with a cheeky character. Crumble has dwarfism, with disproportionate, short legs and club feet. Ponies with dwarfism often have other problems which can cause them to lead shorter lives so he will therefore have a home for life at Munchkins. He certainly loves his food so if there’s a hay net around Crumble will be there.

Health problems: Dwarfism, club feet, dental problems and prone to laminitis.

Why Crumble can't be rehomed: Due to having dwarfism, he will have a short life span and needs careful monitoring. His hooves also need trimming every 2 weeks due to his club feet.

Born in 2008

Daisy, Daphne & Dandy

Daisy and her two foals came to us after their owner could no longer care for them.

Health problems: The foals were bottle fed after Dandy's mum died so Daisy took him on as well as her own foal.

Domino

Domino was rescued from the sales in a terrible condition full of lice. His teeth were the worst our vet had ever seen and he had huge deep ulcers. He has been used as a breeding stallion for his whole life and we believe he has had many homes. He has a collapsed crest and we also believe he has EMS so we will have to mange his grass intake. He has recently been castrated and has recovered well from this. He is a gentle little pony and loves attention we give him here at Munchkins and is good friends with George.

Health problems: Teeth problems, deep ulcers and a collapsed crest.

Born in 2007

Dottie

Dottie came to Munchkins several years ago as part of a multi-horse rescue case. She is prone to laminitis and has sweet itch and lives mostly off grass in our enrichment area with her good friend Toffee. She has recently had surgery on a luxating patella which appears to be successful. She is a lovely characterful lady who loves her food and herbs.

Health problems: She has sweet itch, prone to laminitis, and she has had surgery on a hind leg ligament.

Why Dottie can't be rehomed: Too many health problems and may require additional surgery.

Born in 2003

Felicity

Felicity has been with us since the start of Munchkins and has been a fantastic fundraising and petting pony as she is so good with children. She is now an elderly lady with arthritis in her back legs and spine for which she receives medication and regular massages. She is very recognisable by her lovely white streak through her tail.

Health problems: Spondylosis in her spine, arthritis in her neck and hind legs, cushings (PPID).

George

George came into Munchkins when his owner could no longer look after him. He has Cushings and EMS and has to live off grass as he has episodes of laminitis. He is a very sweet natured, friendly pony who loves fuss and attention and has made good friends with Domino.

Born in 2008

Hector

Hector came to us with his friend Hattie, from a lovely home. Unfortunately his owners could no longer look after him due to ill-health. Hector is a Shetland crossed with a Cob so he is a chunky boy with short legs. He is a very cheeky pony and has two great friends at Munchkins – Tiny Tim and Bam Bam. Hector used to be able to pull a cart but now has arthritis. He enjoys walks in the woods and is a great therapy pony.

Henry

Henry came into Munchkins in August 2023 with his companion Teddy after their owner could no longer care for them both. Henry has laminitis and needs restricted grass management. He is a lovely, friendly pony and was a driving pony along with Teddy. He has settled in well at Munchkins and loves the ladies!

Born in 2004

Herbie

Herbie came to Munchkins when his owner had to emigrate. He has been a fantastic fundraising and petting pony as he is so good with children. He has articular facet arthritis and he also needs a careful diet and is on medication. Herbie is a very popular pony and we continue to take him to fundraising events when we can.

Health problems: Articular facet spinal joint arthritis requiring steroid injections and ongoing physio and rehabilitation.

Born in 2003

Honey

Honey came to Munchkins from Ireland with her mum, Beauty and sister Amber when their elderly owner couldn’t care for them any longer. She is a feisty red head with attitude so we approach with caution. She likes a scratch on her neck when she’s having a good day. Unfortunately, Beauty passed away last year aged 26 and Amber was rehomed several years ago. Honey prefers a small herd group as she enjoys her own company. She regularly has soft feeds as she has had extensive dental work.

Born in 2007

Lady

Lady was rescued and when she arrived she was petrified. She couldn’t be handled for weeks until she had settled in. Lady was discovered in foal and Toby was born in June 2015.  She is still nervous of people but has made great progress. She has a special bond with Bam Bam who adores her.

Health problems: Prone to laminitis, back problems, and stiff hind legs.

Born in 2005

Luna

Luna arrived in September 2009 after being abandoned beside a main road. We think she was born around 2004. She is totally blind but settled quickly into her new home at Munchkins. She has a close bond with a small group of ponies who look out for her including Bonnie, Mabel and Jester She will remain at Munchkins for the rest of her life.

Health problems: Completely blind, and has equine metabolic syndrome.

Why Luna can't be rehomed: She needs stability at Munchkins and is bonded with Mabel.

Born in 2010

Mabel

Mabel came to Munchkins when her owner could no longer cope with her unpredictable behaviour. She was unhappy and anxious living with a pony who she didn’t get along with. Mabel is a sweet little thing, she is a tiny pony at only 27” and we think she has dwarfism. She is very frightened of having her hooves trimmed and has to be sedated so will need help from our behaviourist to make this easier for her.

Health problems: She has behavioural issues, dwarfism, arthritis and twisted back legs.

Born in 2001

Nutmeg

Nutmeg has been used as a brood mare and has gone through sales twice. She arrived in Foal and had Shadow in April 2015. She is very nervous and clearly hasn’t been handled much. She is getting used to all the volunteers at Munchkins which is helping her nerves. She will remain at Munchkins for the rest of her life.

Health problems: She has arthritis and is very nervous.

Why Nutmeg can't be rehomed: She has had numerous homes and it would be to traumatic for her to move again.

Ozzy

Ozzy arrived at Munchkins aged just 3 months with his mum Duchess. We were told that he might have a hereditary neurological condition, so has a home for life at Munchkins. He is a sweet little pony with a lovely character and is good friends with lots of the ponies in particular Crumble.

Popcorn

Popcorn and her mum Whisper came into Munchkins when their owner could no longer look after them. Popcorn is a beautiful pony and well recognised by her beautiful fuzzy forelock. She has suffered with laminitis in the past and has to live off grass and has also been diagnosed with EMS and is on medication for this. She is a very happy pony living on our grass free track system with many of the other ponies.

Health problems: Popcorn has suffered from laminitis in the past.

Born in 1993

Poppet

Poppet arrived in an emaciated state and it was touch and go as to whether she would survive with a body score condition of 0.2/5. She is a very sweet natured, loving pony and has formed a special bond with Bert. The vets thinks she’s around 30 years old, her teeth are worn down to stumps at the front and she was riddled with lice on arrival. We hope to give her a safe and loving home here at Munchkins for the rest of her life.

Health problems: Poppet has arthritis and terrible teeth.

Reggie

Reggie came to Munchkins in July 2023 when his lovely 82 year old owner could no longer give him all the care he needed. She lives locally so pops up and sees him most days. Reggie has had Laminitis in the past and has to be carefully managed. He is a real softie and very friendly with a beautiful nature and is recognised by his frizzy hair. He lives off grass with Skye, Toffee, Dottie and Honey.

Born in 1996

Rolo

Rolo has been with us since September 2019. He was an aged stallion (in his 20’s) with a retained testicle. He was very, very frightened and had appalling teeth, ulcers and overgrown front teeth resembling fangs. He struggles to eat hay so has access to good grass. His background has not been a good one so he needs ongoing care and handling to build up trust.

Health problems: He has very poor teeth, is very nervous, and is partially sighted.

Why Rolo can't be rehomed: He is too old and moving homes would be too traumatic for him.

Born in 2001

Sherbet

Sherbert arrived at Munchkins with her son, Joey in June 2022. Sadly her owner was too ill to care for them both. She is a very friendly, loving and sweet natured pony and has settled in well at Munchkins she has made a good friend in Felicity.  Sherbert was rehomed late last year but, unfortunately it didn’t work out well so she will now remain at Munchkins. She has recently been diagnosed with Cushings so is now on medication.

Health problems: She has cushings (PPID), and major arthritis in her pelvic area. She is also prone to laminitis.

Born in 2009

Skye

Skye came to Munchkins when her current owner could no longer care for her, though he had tried to do his very best by her.

She is very frightened and head shy so makes it difficult to catch her. It will take time for her to gain peoples trust. We have also been told that she is also possibly partially sighted so this could explain her nervousness. She has sadly had a very traumatic past, born into neglect and her first owner was prosecuted for abuse.

Health problems: It is believed she is partially sighted, is extremely nervous and needs specialist care and attention.

Why Skye can't be rehomed: She is very frightened, head shy and needs experienced ongoing training with our behavioural expert.

Toffee came from a multi agency rescue.

Tiny Tim

Tim was rescued as his owner could no longer care for him.

Health problems: Prone to laminitis, cushings (PPID). He cannot take prascend.

Why Tim can't be rehomed: He was very ill before he came to us and was in a vet hospital due to a reaction to his cushings medication. He needs specialist monitoring.

Velvet

Velvet was rescued and then sent to Munchkins.

Health problems: Velvet is in her late 20's and came from a horrific background of abuse. She has very few grinding teeth and needs several bowls of soft mash a day in winter.

Why Velvet can't be rehomed: Velvet has had an awful life and is petrified of people. She needs time to learn to trust again and will live out her days here at Munchkins.

Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh came to us via World Horse Welfare with his companion Black Jack. Their owner sadly died at the age of 97. Winnie has had historic laminitis for many years and he has recently been diagnosed with Cushings so is on medication for this. He was with Black Jack for his whole life but has now made friends with Honey who came in at a similar time. He will need to live off grass and be managed very carefully. He is a very friendly pony when he gets to know you.

Zebedee

Zebedee came into Munchkins in June 2023. He is a tiny pony and was very underweight on arrival. He a very nervous pony but is gaining our trust and has made a good friend in Womble who he now shares a field with. He is a very, dear sweet pony and we are gradually making progress with head-collar training. He has dwarfism and crooked back legs.
